Find Out Who You Are and Be That Person: A Lesson From Ellen DeGeneres
Successful, charitable, confident, and funny. These are all words that describe Ellen. She's pretty much amazing, am I right?
But, she didn't wake up an overnight success. When Ellen was growing up, she dreamed of becoming a veterinarian, but she gave up on that dream because she thought she wasn't book smart. She hopped from job to job, from waiting tables, selling vacuum cleaners, and painting houses.
So, how did Ellen get to where she is today?
It was during a public speaking event that her direction in life changed. Believe or not, she was nervous speaking in front of a crowd, so she used humor and comedy to get her through the experience. The crowd loved her.
She started receiving offers to do stand-up comedy - this was the start of her career!
This is a great lesson in knowing your unique talents. By discovering your talents and investing time and energy into developing them, you'll be have the ability to work in your strengths zone on a daily basis.
Ellen had the tenacity to follow her passions and find her voice as a comedian. Here is another quote I love from her about following your passions (with a touch of the ever-famous Ellen humor):
By working in our strengths zone every day, we open ourselves up to success and happiness.
I challenge you to think about your past week or month. Are you able to use your unique talents every day? Are you doing things that you are passionate about?
